Omeprazole, a racemic mixture of 2 enantiomers, reduces the secretion of gastric acid by a highly selective mechanism of action. It is a specific inhibitor of the proton pump in the gastric parietal cell. It acts rapidly and allows control of gastric acid secretion by irreversible inhibition once a day.
Directions for Use
The recommended dosage is 1 tablet of 20 mg per day taken before a meal with a glass of water, morning or evening. Tablet can be disolved in water if necessary.The duration of the treatment is 14 days.Taking the tablets for 2 or 3 consecutive days may be necessary to achieve symptom improvement. The majority of patients get complete relief from heartburn within 7 days.Once the symptoms have disappeared, treatment should be discontinued.
